Browns Stun Steelers After Andre Szmyt’s Field Goal in Final Seconds

The Cleveland Browns pulled off a dramatic 27–24 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday night, with kicker Andre Szmyt delivering the decisive moment with just 10 seconds remaining at Huntington Bank Field.

Szmyt calmly converted a 56-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter to put Cleveland ahead 27–24. The kick capped a tense finish between the AFC North rivals and gave the Browns their third win of the 2026 regular season.

Browns Take Control Early

Cleveland entered halftime with a 21–10 advantage after producing a strong first half on both sides of the ball. Pittsburgh struggled to maintain momentum and also lost Derrick Harmon and Jamel Dean to injuries during the opening half.

The Steelers, however, mounted a late comeback and turned the game into a dramatic fourth-quarter battle.

Steelers Rally in the Fourth Quarter

Pittsburgh tied the game at 24–24 with 1:42 remaining. Aaron Rodgers scored on a quarterback sneak from the 1-yard line for a two-point conversion after connecting with Pat Freiermuth for a 3-yard touchdown on the previous play.

That eight-play, 80-yard drive appeared to put Pittsburgh in position to complete the comeback.

But Cleveland responded with one final possession.

Szmyt Delivers the Game-Winner

With the clock winding down, the Browns moved into field-goal range and gave Szmyt the opportunity to decide the game.

The Cleveland kicker made no mistake, drilling the 56-yard attempt with 10 seconds left to give the Browns a 27–24 lead.

Pittsburgh had one final chance, but Browns defensive back Grant Delpit intercepted the Steelers with just one second remaining, officially sealing Cleveland's victory.

Another Strong Performance From Szmyt

The winning kick continued Szmyt's perfect start to the 2026 regular season. Before Thursday's game, he had converted all six of his field-goal attempts and all four extra-point attempts, according to the Browns' official statistics.

His performance against Pittsburgh added another memorable moment to that record.

AFC North Rivalry Produces Another Thriller

Thursday's matchup was the 150th meeting between Cleveland and Pittsburgh. The Steelers entered the contest with an 86–63–1 advantage in the all-time series, but the Browns added another victory to their side of the rivalry.

Cleveland improved to 3–1, while Pittsburgh dropped to 2–2 following the dramatic defeat. The Browns are scheduled to visit the New York Jets on October 11, while the Steelers will host the Indianapolis Colts on the same date.

The game ultimately came down to a single kick, and Szmyt delivered when Cleveland needed him most.
