Tyquan Thornton suffers a serious ankle injury after a 55-yard catch against the Raiders.

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyquan Thornton suffered a serious left ankle injury during Sunday’s dramatic 30-27 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders.

Thornton was having the biggest game of his NFL career before the injury, catching five passes for 111 yards and two touchdowns.

Thornton Injured After 55-Yard Reception

The injury occurred late in the fourth quarter with Kansas City trailing Las Vegas 19-17.

On third down, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes connected with Thornton on a deep pass for a 55-yard gain. Thornton got behind Raiders safety Treydan Stukes and made a major play that put Kansas City in position to take the lead.

However, Stukes tackled Thornton from behind, and the two players fell to the ground. Thornton's left ankle was caught awkwardly underneath him.

Thornton initially appeared ready to celebrate the big reception. But when he attempted to stand, he immediately went back to the turf and medical personnel rushed onto the field.

The Chiefs placed his leg in an air cast before Thornton was taken from the field on a cart.

Thornton Diagnosed With Dislocated Ankle

After the game, Chiefs coach Andy Reid said the injury did not look good.

Later reports indicated that Thornton suffered a dislocated left ankle. Team doctors reportedly put the ankle back into place, and Thornton was expected to return to Kansas City with the team.

He is scheduled for additional medical evaluation, including an MRI and a second opinion, to determine the full extent of the injury and his recovery timeline.

At this stage, Thornton is considered out indefinitely, with further testing expected to provide more information.

A Career Game Ends in Pain

The injury was particularly unfortunate because Thornton had delivered a career-best performance.

He finished the game with:

- 5 receptions

- 111 receiving yards

- 2 touchdowns

- 55-yard reception

His second touchdown came earlier in the fourth quarter on an 8-yard pass from Mahomes.

Thornton's 55-yard reception also proved crucial to the game's outcome. Kenneth Walker III scored a 2-yard touchdown on the very next play, giving Kansas City the lead.

Chiefs Also Lose Rashee Rice

Kansas City's receiving corps took another hit during the game.

Rashee Rice suffered a hamstring injury earlier in the contest and did not return. With both Rice and Thornton dealing with injuries, the Chiefs could face a significant challenge at wide receiver moving forward.

Patrick Mahomes expressed his support for Thornton after the game, saying he was hoping the injury would be less serious than it initially appeared.

Chiefs Hold On for 30-27 Victory

Despite the injury setback, Kansas City held on for a thrilling 30-27 victory over Las Vegas.

Kenneth Walker III was a major factor, rushing for 177 yards and two touchdowns. The Chiefs also forced a crucial fumble shortly after Thornton's injury and quickly turned it into another touchdown.

The victory moved Kansas City to 4-0, keeping the Chiefs as the AFC's last undefeated team entering their bye week.

For Thornton, however, the victory was overshadowed by an injury that now leaves his season uncertain.

The Chiefs will await the results of his medical evaluations before determining the next steps in his recovery.
